On Jan. 14, 2026, the Nova ransomware group claimed responsibility for a data breach affecting the National Auto Loan Network, a financial services company specializing in auto loan refinancing.
According to Nova’s posting on a dark web site, the group alleges it has obtained 600GB of the organization’s data and intends to publish the stolen information within eight to nine days. The breach appears to be the result of a ransomware attack, a method where cybercriminals gain unauthorized access to a company’s systems, encrypt sensitive data and demand payment for its return or to prevent its public release.
While the specific number of individuals affected has not been disclosed, the alleged scale of the breach suggests that a substantial amount of sensitive information may be involved.
The types of information have not been disclosed to the public but could potentially include personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account details, loan information and other data provided during the auto loan refinancing process.
The severity of this breach is heightened by the nature of the attack and the volume of data purportedly stolen. Ransomware incidents like this can disrupt business operations, compromise customer trust and expose affected individuals to risks such as identity theft and financial fraud.
At this time, National Auto Loan Network has not issued a public statement regarding the breach.
In situations involving ransomware and the potential exposure of sensitive financial data, affected individuals are strongly encouraged to take proactive steps to protect themselves. These include monitoring credit reports for unusual activity, placing fraud alerts or credit freezes with major credit bureaus and being cautious of phishing attempts that may reference personal or financial information.
If the company provides resources such as credit monitoring or identity theft protection, it is important for affected individuals to take advantage of these services. Customers should also consider changing passwords for online accounts associated with National Auto Loan Network and remain vigilant for suspicious emails or phone calls requesting personal information.
For ongoing updates or to contact the company directly, individuals can call the company's customer service line at 888-391-3504.
