On April 17, 2025, Independent Title Agency, LLC (ITA), a full-service title company based in New York State, experienced a data breach. The breach was the result of a ransomware attack attributed to the SKIRA TEAM, a known threat actor group.

The attackers claimed responsibility for infiltrating ITA’s systems, stealing approximately 932.4 GB of data, and threatened to publish the stolen information on the dark web Tor network. The data breach compromised personally identifiable information (PII), including names, Social Security numbers and other sensitive information from real estate transaction records.

Independent Title Agency began notifying affected individuals on July 18, 2025. The cybersecurity incident was disclosed to the Maine Attorney General's office on the same day. The total number of affected individuals has not been released.
