HYTORC Division of UNEX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of industrial bolting tools and systems, recently experienced a significant data security incident that has impacted the personal information of several individuals.
The breach was first made public through a disclosure to the Indiana Attorney General and to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Feb. 5, 2026, affecting four Massachusetts residents. The total number of individuals impacted nationwide is 1,106.
On Nov. 24, 2025, the Qilin ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack, posting about the incident on a dark web Tor site. The attackers reportedly gained unauthorized access to HYTORC’s systems and exfiltrated data before deploying ransomware.
The group, claimed to have obtained organizational data and threatened to leak or sell the stolen information if their demands were not met.
The confirmed compromised information included personally identifiable information (PII), specifically Social Security numbers.
In response to the incident, HYTORC Division of UNEX Corporation notified affected individuals and relevant authorities, as required by law.
The company is offering 24 months of complimentary identity protection services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. These services include credit and dark web monitoring, a $1 million identity fraud loss reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services. Impacted individuals have until May 5, 2026, to enroll in these services.
HYTORC has also provided detailed instructions for affected individuals on how to place a security freeze or fraud alert on their credit reports with all three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
Additionally, the company encourages all potentially affected individuals to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing their credit reports and account statements for any signs of fraudulent activity. The Federal Trade Commission provides further guidance on protecting against identity theft, which can be accessed through their identity theft resource center.
