On Aug. 9, 2025, Huntwood Industries, experienced ransomware attack that impacted its computer systems. Suspicious activity within the internal network was detected on Aug. 5, 2025, and within days, an unauthorized intruder deployed ransomware, disrupting operations.
A review completed on Aug. 29, 2025 determined that the data breach compromised the personally identifiable information (PII) of 12,122 Huntwood employees and their dependents. Exposed information included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses and financial account information.
Huntwood Industries began notifying impacted individuals by mail on Sept. 26, 2025. The company reported the breach to the Maine Attorney General’s office and the Washington Attorney General’s office on the same day. Impacted individuals includes 9,612 Washington residents and one in Maine.
Following the ransomware attack, Huntwood immediately identified and removed the unauthorized intruder from its systems and blocked further unauthorized activity. The company restored its systems using backup data. Huntwood is also offering affected individuals 12 free months of Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring services.
