Extant Aerospace, a defense and space electronics company based in Melbourne, Florida, disclosed a data breach that affected 3,012 individuals in the United States.

The company, legally known as Symetrics Industries LLC, manufactures and supplies complex electronic assemblies for the Department of Defense and international customers for both military and commercial use.

On or around Aug. 23, 2025, Extant Aerospace detected ransomware activity affecting a portion of its network environment. Upon discovering the activity, the company took containment steps and notified federal law enforcement.

Following those initial steps, the company launched an investigation into the scope of the incident.

On April 13, 2026, nearly eight months after the ransomware activity was first detected, the company identified the specific individuals whose information was potentially compromised.

The types of personal information exposed included names, addresses, dates of birth and Social Security numbers.

The company mailed written notifications to affected consumers on May 13, 2026.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a fraud alert or security freeze on credit files by contacting Equifax (1-800-685-1111), Experian (1-888-397-3742) or TransUnion (1-888-909-8872) to help prevent new accounts from being opened without authorization.
  • Review credit reports for unfamiliar accounts or inquiries by requesting free copies at AnnualCreditReport.com and examining them carefully for any activity that is not recognized.
  • File tax returns promptly and monitor IRS records to reduce the risk of someone using a stolen Social Security number to file a fraudulent return, and consider submitting an IRS Identity Theft Affidavit (Form 14039).
  • Be cautious of phishing attempts that reference Extant Aerospace or this data breach by name, as scammers sometimes use real breach notifications to trick people into sharing more personal details.
  • Monitor bank and financial account statements for any unauthorized transactions and report suspicious activity to the financial institution right away.
