What Happened?

On January 24, 2024, Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America experienced a data security incident where personal information was misdirected. This breach potentially affects numerous consumers, exposing sensitive data including full names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and Social Security numbers.

Immediate Actions Taken by Allianz Life

Upon discovering the breach, Allianz Life acted swiftly to address the situation. The company has launched a comprehensive investigation to understand the scope and impact of the breach. To help mitigate potential damage and protect affected individuals, Allianz Life is offering a free two-year membership in Kroll’s Identity Monitoring Services. This service includes features such as credit monitoring, a current credit report, and identity theft restoration services.

How to Protect Yourself

If you believe you might be affected by this breach, it is crucial to take immediate steps to secure your personal information:

  1. Enroll in Identity Monitoring Services: Activate your free services provided by Kroll by visiting Kroll's enrollment page before June 5, 2024. Use the activation code KHHG-DAFT-ETBC-NQ8A and verification ID SF-009342.
  1. Monitor Your Accounts: Keep an eye on your bank statements, credit card statements, and any financial transactions for unauthorized activity. Report any suspicious activity immediately.
  1. Check Your Credit Reports: You are entitled to a free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. Obtain yours at Annual Credit Report or by calling (877) 322-8228.
  1. Place Fraud Alerts and Credit Freezes: Consider placing a fraud alert or a credit freeze on your credit reports to make it harder for identity thieves to open accounts in your name. This can be done for free by contacting each of the credit bureaus:
  • Equifax: Call (888)-836-6351 or visit Equifax
  • Experian: Call (888) 397-3742 or visit Experian
  • TransUnion: Call (888) 909-8872 or visit TransUnion
  1. Report to Authorities: If you suspect identity theft, report it to local law enforcement, your state’s Attorney General, and the Federal Trade Commission at FTC Identity Theft or call (877) ID-THEFT (877-438-4338).

Additional Resources

Allianz Life has set up a dedicated contact center for further inquiries about this incident. You can reach out by calling 1-800-950-0042. For more detailed information about the breach and the company’s response, you can view the official notice on the Massachusetts Attorney General's website.

Allianz Life deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by this incident and remains committed to maintaining the privacy and security of all personal information entrusted to them.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
