AAA Driver Training School, Inc., (DTS) a well-known provider of driver education services in the Northeast, recently experienced a data breach that affected thousands of individuals in Massachusetts.
The incident originated in late December 2025, DTS was notified by its driving school software vendor of unauthorized third-party access to the vendor’s systems. These systems stored sensitive student data. The vendor terminated the unauthorized access and remediated the affected system, but by then, certain student information had already been exposed.
In January 2026, the vendor confirmed to DTS that the compromised data included student names, contact information, dates of birth, and driver permit or license numbers.
The breach was limited to one of the driving school software vendor’s systems, and no other DTS or AAA Northeast information was affected.
According to a disclosure filed with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on March 5, 2026, the breach impacted 25,247 people in the state alone. The total number of individuals affected across the U.S. is undisclosed at this time.
To help protect those whose information was compromised, DTS is offering complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorks for 12 months. This identity protection service includes credit monitoring, identity restoration support, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
Affected individuals can enroll in the program using an activation code provided in their notification letter. For minors, Experian’s MinorPlus program is available as an alternative.
Those impacted are encouraged to take advantage of the credit monitoring offer and to remain vigilant by reviewing their credit reports, placing fraud alerts, or considering a security freeze with the major credit bureaus.
