54 Below Inc., a nonprofit cabaret venue and restaurant located in the basement of Studio 54 in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, disclosed a data breach that affected approximately 13,622 individuals in the United States, including 17 Maine residents and 16 Vermont residents.

An unknown actor gained unauthorized access to 54 Below's network environment on May 15, 2025. During this unauthorized access, the actor potentially accessed and acquired certain files stored on the network, some of which may have contained individuals' personal information.

54 Below said it identified the unusual activity in its network on the same day, May 15, 2025. The company launched an investigation with the support of external cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Following the investigation, 54 Below conducted a comprehensive review of the affected data.

The review concluded nearly a year after the initial incident, at which point the company determined which individuals' personal information may have been involved in connection with the breach.

The types of personal information exposed included names and Social Security numbers.

The help line will remain available for 90 days from the date of the notification letter.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a fraud alert or security freeze on your credit file. Contact any one of the three major credit bureaus, Equifax at 1-800-525-6285, Experian at 1-888-397-3742 or TransUnion at 1-833-799-5355, to help prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened in your name.
  • Request free copies of your credit reports. Visit AnnualCreditReport.com to review all three reports for any unfamiliar accounts or suspicious activity.
  • Monitor your financial accounts and statements closely. Review bank statements, credit card statements and other financial accounts regularly for any unauthorized transactions and report suspicious activity to your financial institution right away.
  • Be cautious of phishing attempts. Watch for emails, phone calls or text messages that reference 54 Below or this data breach by name, as scammers often use real breach notifications to trick people into sharing more personal information.
  • Report suspected identity theft to authorities. If you believe your Social Security number has been misused, file a report with the Federal Trade Commission at 877-438-4338 or at consumer.ftc.gov and contact your local law enforcement.
