YouTube TV $7.5 Million Autorenewal Class Action Settlement

California consumers who paid for at least one renewal term of a YouTube TV subscription using YouTube billing between Feb. 1, 2017, and Oct. 29, 2021, may qualify to submit a claim for approximately $92.26 from a class action settlement.

Google LLC and YouTube LLC agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the companies did not comply with California’s automatic renewal law when selling YouTube TV subscriptions.

Who can file a claim for a YouTube settlement payout?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They enrolled in and paid for at least one renewal term of a YouTube TV subscription between Feb. 1, 2017, and Oct. 29, 2021.
  • They purchased the subscription directly through YouTube billing, not the Apple app store, for personal, family or household purposes.
  • They lived in California at the time of their subscription renewal.

Are there any exclusions?

The following individuals are not eligible to participate in this settlement:

  • Anyone who subscribed to YouTube TV through iOS-based mobile applications from Apple’s app store
  • Individuals who canceled their YouTube TV subscriptions during a free trial period
  • Subscribers who received a full refund from Google or YouTube

How much are settlement payments?

Pro rata cash payment: Class members can submit a claim to receive a pro rata cash payment from the net settlement fund estimated at $92.26. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the number of claims filed.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Required claim information

  • All class members must provide the email address and/or phone number linked to the YouTube TV account on the claim form.
  • To submit an online claim, class members must provide the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.

  • Paper check mailed to the address provided (only option for mailed claims)

Settlement fund breakdown

The $7,500,000 settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: Up to $250,000
  • Attorneys' fees: Up to $2,500,000
  • Attorneys' expenses: Up to $425,000
  • Service award to class representative: Up to $15,000
  • Payments to approved claimants: Remaining settlement funds

  • Deadline to file a claim: Aug. 30, 2026
  • Deadline to opt out: Aug. 30, 2026
  • Final approval hearing: Oct. 15, 2026

When is the YouTube TV settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants approximately 105 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why is there a class action settlement?

This class action lawsuit alleged Google LLC and YouTube LLC did not fully comply with California’s automatic renewal law when selling YouTube TV subscriptions. The plaintiff claimed the law requires companies to provide certain disclosures before automatically renewing subscriptions.

Google and YouTube denied the allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the risk and uncertainty of further litigation and a possible trial.
