Globe Life, American Income Life $3.4M Data Breach Settlement

Current and former customers who received a notice that a data breach involving Globe Life and American Income Life Insurance may have exposed their personal information could be eligible to submit a claim for up to $5,072 from a class action settlement.

Globe Life Inc. and American Income Life Insurance Co. agreed to pay $3.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they failed to adequately protect customer data during a data incident that occurred on or about Oct. 2, 2024. The cyberattack impacted approximately 532,578 individuals.

Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?

Class members are individuals who received a mailed notice from American Income Life Insurance Co. and/or Globe Life Inc. stating a data breach that occurred on or about Oct. 2, 2024, may have compromised their personal information.

How much are settlement payments?

Class members have the following benefit options:

• Cash payment A - Documented losses: Class members can claim up to $5,000 that for out-of-pocket losses the data breach most likely caused. Eligible expenses and losses include:
• Bank fees, overdraft charges, late fees or declined payment fees due to fraud
• Charges for credit monitoring or identity theft protection purchased in response to the breach
• Costs to place or remove a credit freeze
• Professional fees for addressing identity fraud (e.g., accountants, attorneys)
• Replacement costs for government-issued identification or documents
• Fraudulent, unreimbursed charges or financial loss directly traceable to misuse of personal information from the breach

• Cash payment B - Lost time: Class members can also claim up to four hours of lost time at $18 per hour for time spent responding to the data breach for a maximum of $72. This includes time lost dealing with anxiety, stress or sleep loss.
• Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to enroll in two years of Cyex Financial Shield Complete credit monitoring at no cost. Services include identity and financial monitoring, alerts and expert product and fraud resolution support designed to protect financial assets. Class members do not need to submit a claim form to receive this benefit.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

The claim deadline is Oct. 19, 2026.

Class members do not need to submit a claim form to receive credit monitoring. All class members received enrollment codes by email or postcard and can enroll after the settlement receives final approval.

Required proof and claim information

• To submit a claim online or by mail, claimants must provide the settlement class member ID from the settlement notice they received.
• To submit a documented losses claim, claimants must provide third-party documentation, which may include receipts, invoices for services, bank or credit card statements showing unreimbursed fees and other proof of identity theft or fraud.

Settlement fund breakdown

The settlement fund will include:

• Attorneys' fees and costs: Up to $1,260,000
• Service awards to class representatives: $5,000 each
• Credit monitoring: Cost determined by number of enrollments
• Payments to approved claimants: Up to $3,400,000

When is the American Income Life and Globe Life data breach settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants approximately 90 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit claimed Globe Life Inc. and American Income Life Insurance Co. experienced a data breach on or about Oct. 2, 2024, in which an unknown actor threatened to publish sensitive customer information unless the companies paid a ransom. The plaintiffs alleged the companies failed to adequately protect personal information.

The companies deny the allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of continued litigation and a possible trial.
