Why is there a class action lawsuit and settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged Mondelez and related companies mislabeled Wheat Thins crackers as “100% whole grain,” claiming this misled consumers because the crackers also contained refined grains. Mondelez denies all allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the expense of further litigation and a possible trial.

As part of the settlement, Mondelez also agreed to remove the “100% whole grain” claim from its labeling.
