Mortgage Investors Group agreed to pay $925,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging a cyberattack exposed customer data, including names, financial information and other sensitive data.
Who can file a claim?
Class members are all individuals whose sensitive information the December 2024 Mortgage Investors Group data breach potentially exposed.
How much is the settlement payout?
The settlement provides several types of compensation and benefits for class members:
- Reimbursement for out-of-packet losses: Class members can claim up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses resulting from the data incident that occurred between Dec. 12, 2024, and Nov. 19, 2026. Eligible expenses include losses from identify theft or fraud, fees for credit reports or monitoring or freezing/unfreezing credit, costs to replace IDs and postage for contacting banks.
- Alternative cash payment: Class members who do not have documented losses can claim a one-time $45 cash payment.
- Credit monitoring: All class members can enroll in one year of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes $1 million in financial fraud insurance and monitoring for identity theft, unauthorized transactions and high-risk activity. If the program detects suspicious activity, class members will have access to a fraud resolution agent.
The settlement caps the fund at $925,000. If the combined total of claims, legal fees and costs, and administration costs exceeds this amount, the settlement administrator will reduce payments proportionally (pro rata).
How to claim a settlement payment
To receive a payment or benefit, class members can file a claim online or print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator. Class members can request a paper copy of the claim form by calling or emailing the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information
- For out-of-pocket loss reimbursement, claimants must provide supporting documentation, such as bank statements, receipts or other proof of expenses, showing the expense is related to the data incident. Self-prepared notes or explanations can support the claim but are not sufficient on their own.
- For credit monitoring and the alternative cash payment, class members do not need to provide documentation.
- For online claims, class members must provide the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.
