Employees who worked as a nonexempt, hourly paid property manager for West Coast Self Storage Group at a location outside California between June 1, 2022, and May 15, 2025, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a collective action settlement.
West Coast Self Storage Group agreed to pay $360,000 to resolve a lawsuit alleging violations of wage-and-hour laws, including unpaid overtime and improper calculation of overtime rates for certain employees.
Who can file a claim?
Class members must meet all of the following criteria:
- They worked as a nonexempt, hourly-paid property manager for West Coast Self Storage Group.
- WCSS employed them at a facility located outside California.
- They worked one or more weeks between June 1, 2022, and May 15, 2025.
The settlement administrator identified eligible class members based on WCSS’s payroll records.
How much can class members get?
Class members who submit a valid claim form by the deadline will receive a cash payment. The total settlement fund is $360,000, but the settlement administrator will reduce this amount by court-approved deductions for attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, service awards and administration expenses before distributing it to claimants on a pro rata basis.
Each claimant’s share is based on the number of qualifying workweeks they worked as a property manager outside California between June 1, 2022, and May 15, 2025.
The settlement administrator will treat half of the payment as wages (subject to payroll tax withholding and reported on a W-2) and half as nonwage income (reported on a 1099 form).

Why is there a collective action settlement?
The collective action lawsuit alleged West Coast Self Storage Group failed to pay property managers for all hours worked and did not include certain nondiscretionary bonuses and other pay in the regular rate for overtime calculations, violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and other wage-and-hour laws.
The company denied these allegations but agreed to the settlement to avoid the expense, risk and uncertainty of continued litigation. The court has not made any ruling on the merits of the claims.
