Consumers affected by the UnitedLex Corp. data breach in March 2023 may qualify to claim compensation from a class action settlement.

UnitedLex Corp. agreed to pay $1,300,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company's negligence in protecting personal information resulted in the data breach.

Who can submit a claim?

Class members must have received a notification that their personal information may have been impacted in the data breach occurring in or around March 2023.

There are approximately 7,588 individuals who received a mailed or emailed notification.

How much can class members get?

Class members can claim various benefits depending on their losses and the impact of the data breach:

  • Reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses: Up to $15,000 per individual for expenses or losses fairly traceable to the data breach
  • Reimbursement for lost time: Up to 20 hours at $25 per hour, totaling $500 per individual
  • Additional cash payments: If there is money remaining after reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses and lost time, the settlement administrator will distribute the remaining funds pro rata among participating settlement class members.
  • Free credit monitoring and identity restoration services: Offered through July 11, 2027

Reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses

Class members can claim up to $15,000 for out-of-pocket expenses. This includes:

  • Costs or expenses incurred in connection with mitigating identity theft or fraud
  • Credit monitoring and identity theft protection purchased on or after March 2, 2023
  • Costs, expenses and losses due to identity theft, fraud or misuse of personal information on or after March 2, 2023
  • Professional fees paid to address identity theft on or after March 2, 2023
  • Other expenses, such as notary, fax, postage, copying, mileage and long-distance telephone charges related to the data breach

Reimbursement for lost Ttme

Class members can claim up to 20 hours of lost time at $25 per hour, totaling $500 per individual. This covers time spent dealing with the repercussions of the data breach.

Additional cash payments

If there is money remaining after reimbursing for out-of-pocket expenses and lost time, the settlement administrator will distribute the remaining funds pro rata among participating settlement class members. The amount of these payments will depend on the number of individuals who submit valid claims.

Free credit monitoring and identity restoration services

Class members can enroll in free credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Kroll through July 11, 2027. The services include:

  • Single-bureau credit monitoring: Alerts for changes to credit data
  • Fraud consultation: Unlimited access to consultation with a Kroll fraud specialist
  • Identity theft restoration: Assistance from a Kroll licensed investigator if they become a victim of identity theft

Yes, proof is required to claim an award.

Claimants need to provide documentation showing:

  • Costs or expenses incurred in connection with mitigating identity theft or fraud
  • Credit monitoring and identity theft protection purchased on or after March 2, 2023
  • Costs, expenses and losses due to identity theft, fraud or misuse of personal information on or after March 2, 2023

How do I get paid?

Class members can choose to receive payment either by check or electronic payment (e.g., PayPal). Those who choose an electronic payment will receive instructions to the email address they provided on the claim form.

$1,300,000 settlement fund breakdown

The settlement fund of $1,300,000 will cover:

  • Reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses
  • Reimbursement for lost time
  • Additional cash payments if funds remain
  • Free credit monitoring and identity restoration services
