Why did this class action lawsuit happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged that the UFC engaged in anticompetitive conduct that allowed it to suppress fighter pay. Plaintiffs claimed the UFC used exclusive contracts, acquired rival promotions, and coerced fighters into long-term deals, which reduced competition and led to lower compensation for fighters.

The UFC denied any wrongdoing, asserting that its actions were pro-competitive and that it increased fighter pay over time. All parties involved agreed to a settlement in order to avoid the expense of continuing litigation and a possible trial.
