
Tenants who lived at Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex in Kansas City, Missouri, may be eligible to claim compensation from class action settlements.
Young Management Corp. agreed to pay $3,980,000 to settle four class action lawsuits alleging it failed to maintain Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex in a habitable condition, resulting in tenants living in unsafe, unsanitary and unhealthy conditions.
Who are the class members?
The class varies by settlement:
- Johnson v. Stonegate Meadows Apartments LLC, includes all tenants who leased at Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex in Kansas City, Missouri, from Dec. 1, 2019, through May 5, 2026.
- Johnson v. Stonegate Meadows L.P. and Eagle Point Management LLC, includes all tenants who leased and/or lived at Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex from April 7, 2018, through November 2019.
- Johnson v. Yarco Co. Inc., includes all tenants who leased and/or lived at Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex from Sept. 1, 2020, through April 4, 2021.
- Johnson v. Young Management Corp., includes all tenants who leased and/or lived at Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex from Nov. 27, 2019, through Aug. 31, 2020.
How much can class members get?
The settlement fund differs per case:
- Johnson v. Stonegate Meadows Apartments LLC, et al., has a $2,000,000 fund.
- Johnson v. Stonegate Meadows L.P. and Eagle Point Management LLC, has a $950,000 fund.
- Johnson v. Yarco Co. Inc., Case No. 2316-cv09588, has a $330,000 fund.
- Johnson v. Young Management Corp., Case No. 2316-cv09588, has a $700,000 fund.
The settlement administrator will use each fund to pay eligible class members, attorneys’ fees and expenses, service awards to the class representatives and settlement administration costs.
The settlement administrator will calculate each class member’s share based on the number of months they resided at Stonegate Meadows during the class period. The longer they lived at the property, the larger their payment will be.
The settlement administrator may conduct a second distribution if there are leftover funds (for example, from uncashed or undeliverable checks(. If funds remain after the second distribution, the administrator will donate them to Legal Aid of Western Missouri.
No action needed to receive payment
Class members do not need to file a claim form to receive their settlement payment. The settlement administrator will use available records to identify eligible class members and mail checks directly to their last known address.

Payout options
The settlement administrator will mail checks directly to eligible class members at their last known address unless the class member contacts it to update their address.
If the post office returns a check as undeliverable, the settlement administrator will make reasonable efforts to locate a current address and re-mail the check.

When is the Young Management Corp. settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will mail payments after the court resolves any appeals and grants final approval to the settlement.

The class action lawsuit alleged Young Management Corp. failed to maintain Stonegate Meadows Apartment Complex in Kansas City, Missouri, in a livable condition while managing the property, resulting in tenants living in unsafe, unsanitary and unhealthy conditions. The plaintiffs claimed Young breached tenants’ rights to habitable property.
Young denied all allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of continued litigation.
