
Employees who applied to or worked for J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. between June 22, 2020, and Sept. 11, 2024, may qualify to receive approximately $100 to $400 from a class action settlement.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. agreed to pay $5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by failing to provide job applicants and employees with a copy of their consumer report or a summary of their rights before taking adverse employment action.
Who is eligible for a J.B. Hunt payout?
Class members must meet the following criteria:
- They were employed by or applied for employment with J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. (or its subsidiaries) in the United States (including all territories and political subdivisions).
- J.B. Hunt used a background report to make an adverse employment decision about them.
- J.B. Hunt did not provide them with a copy of their consumer report or the FCRA summary of rights at least five business days before taking adverse action.
- The adverse action occurred between June 22, 2020, and Sept. 11, 2024.
Individuals who received a written or emailed notice about the settlement did so because J.B. Hunt’s records indicate they are a class member. Those who did not receive a notice but believe they meet these criteria can contact the settlement administrator to confirm eligibility.
There are two groups within the class:
- Standard class members: Individuals who received a notice from J.B. Hunt
- No notice subgroup: Individuals for whom J.B. Hunt has no record of sending a notice
The defendant’s records indicate there are 14,915 members of the settlement, including 5,681 in the no notice subgroup.
How much can class members receive?
- All class members will receive at least $100.
- No notice subgroup members will receive approximately $400.
How are these amounts calculated?
The settlement fund is divided as follows:
- $2,239,966.32 for the no notice subgroup
- $923,400 for other class members
No claim form needed to receive payment
Class members do not need to file a claim to receive payment. If the court approves the settlement and it becomes final, the settlement administrator will mail a check to their their last known address J.B. Hunt has on file. $5 million settlement fund breakdown
The $5,000,000 settlement fund covers:
- Settlement administration costs: $52,000
- Attorneys’ fees: $1,666,666.67
- Attorneys’ expenses: $26,367.01 (estimated)
- Service award to class representative: $15,000
- Payments to class members: The remainder of the fund, including $2,239,966.32 reserved for the no notice subgroup and $923,400 reserved for other class members
If some checks are not cashed, the settlement administrator will redistribute the remaining funds among those who cashed them, potentially increasing the amount per person.

When is the J.B. Hunt FCRA settlement payout date?
Payments will be sent approximately 17 to 34 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement and any appeals are resolved.

The class action lawsuit alleged J.B. Hunt took adverse employment action against job applicants and employees based on background reports without first providing them with a copy of the report or a summary of their rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act at least five business days in advance.
