Job seekers who applied for certain positions at Half Price Books, Records, Magazines Inc. in Washington state between Jan. 1, 2023, and June 11, 2025, may be eligible to claim between $657.38 and $5,000 from a class action settlement.

Half Price Books, Records, Magazines Inc. agreed to pay up to $349,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to include wage scales or salary ranges in job postings as required by Washington law.

Who can file a claim?

Class members must meet all of the following criteria:

  • They applied for a job with Half Price Books, Records, Magazines Inc. in the state of Washington.
  • They applied for one of the following job listing numbers: 905623, 912624, 912696, 993830 or 1111120.
  • They submitted their application between Jan. 1, 2023, and June 11, 2025.
  • The job posting did not include the wage scale or salary range for the position or a general description of all benefits and other compensation.

If an individual received a settlement notice, the company’s records indicate they may be eligible.

How much can class members get?

The total settlement fund ranges from a minimum of $223,440.50 to a maximum of $349,000. The settlement fund amount depends on how many people submit valid claims. If 45% or fewer class members (about 157 people) file claims, Half Price Books will pay the minimum settlement fund of $223,440.50. For each additional claimant beyond 157, it will pay $657.38 per person up to the maximum settlement Fund of $349,000.

The settlement administrator will divide the net settlement fund equally among all valid claimants after deducting attorneys’ fees, litigation costs and the service award for the lead plaintiff.

The estimated payment is $657.38 per person, but the actual amount could be as high as $5,000, depending on how the number of valid claims.

The settlement administrator will report payments as non-wage damages and interest on a Form 1099-MISC.

How to claim an award

Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator. The claim form deadline is Dec. 9, 2025.

What proof or documentation is necessary to submit a claim?

  • All class members must provide their Social Security number for tax-reporting purposes.
  • To file an online claim, class members must provide the CPT ID and PIN located on the settlement notice they received. Those who do not have a CPT ID and/or PIN should email hpbepoasettlement@cptgroup.com.

Payout options

  • The settlement administrator will mail payments by check to the address provided on the claim form.
  • Checks will expire and become void 181 days after issuance.

When is the Half Price Books settlement payout date?
