Current owner or primary users of a Generac PWRcell solar system purchased in the United States before Jan. 9, 2026, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.
Generac Holdings Inc. and Generac Power Systems Inc. agreed to pay $15 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging certain SnapRS devices in Generac PWRcell solar power systems could overheat, melt or fail, causing system shutdowns and performance issues.
Who can file a claim?
Class members must meet all of the following criteria:
- They are an individual or entity residing in the United States.
- They are the current owner and/or primary user of a Generac PWRcell system purchased in the United States before Jan. 9, 2026.
- "Current owner" means anyone with contractual ownership rights to a PWRcell system.
- "Primary user" means a homeowner or other occupant who is financially responsible for the electric service at the property where the system is installed. The primary user does not have to be the owner and vice versa.
Some class members are prequalified. Those who received a notice with a claim ID (such as a postcard or email) are prequalified and do not need to provide additional proof of ownership for a system claim. If both a current owner and a primary user exist for the same system, either can file, but the settlement administrator will only pay one award per system. If both file, it will split the payment equally.
Exclusions
The settlement excludes owners or primary users of systems Generac provided through U.S. Department of Energy grants.
How much can class members get?
There are three main types of benefits:
- System claim: All eligible class members can claim a cash payment based on the number of SnapRS devices in their system. If both an owner and a primary user submit valid claims for the same system, the settlement administrator will split the payment 50/50.
- Out-of-pocket expenses: Class members who paid for SnapRS-related repairs, system removal or other costs before Jan. 9, 2026, may be eligible for reimbursement. This option requires documentation.
- Loss of power generation: Class members who experienced a loss of energy production due to SnapRS issues for two or more months can claim either a flat $150 (with an attestation) or the actual documented loss (with supporting documentation).
If the total value of claims exceeds the settlement fund, the settlement administrator will reduce payments proportionally (pro rata).
How to claim a settlement payout
Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete a PDF claim form to mail to the settlement administrator.
Settlement administrator's mailing address: Generac PWRcell Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 1628, Baton Rouge, LA 70821
Prequalified class members who only seek a system claim can use their claim ID and select the easy pay option online or on the paper form. Those who are not prequalified or seek reimbursement for expenses or power loss must complete the full claim form and provide required documentation.
What proof or documentation is required to submit a claim?
- Prequalified system claims do not require additional proof required if the class member has a claim ID.
- Other system claims require proof of ownership or use (such as receipts, contracts or a photo of the inverter with serial number).
- Out-of-pocket expenses claims require receipts or estimates for repairs, removal or other costs.
- Loss of power generation claims require an attestation for the $150 flat award or utility bills, PWRView app reports or installer documentation for actual loss claim.

Why is there a class action settlement?

Generac denies all allegations and any liability. Both sides agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty, cost and time of further litigation.
