Film Forum Inc. agreed to pay up to $413,233.50 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to properly disclose handling fees for online movie ticket purchases. The lawsuit claims this omission violated New York law (specifically ACAL § 25.07(4)).
Who are the class members?
Individuals are included in the settlement class if they meet all of the following criteria:
- They are located in the United States.
- They purchased electronic tickets to Film Forum from the defendant’s website.
- They purchased the tickets between Aug. 29, 2022, and March 6, 2025.
- They paid a handling fee in connection with the purchase.
How much is the Film Forum payout?
Each eligible class member who submits a valid claim will receive a cash payment of $4.16. This amount is fixed and does not vary based on the number of tickets purchased or the total amount spent. The payment is not subject to proration unless the court awards less than the requested attorneys’ fees or service awards, in which case the settlement administrator will distribute the remaining funds to class members.
In addition to the monetary payment, Film Forum agreed to modify its website to clearly display handling fees and comply with the relevant law going forward.
How to claim a settlement payment
Class members must file a claim online. There is no downloadable PDF claim form.
Required information
To file an online claim, class members must provide the unique notice ID and confirmation code from the settlement notice they received by email. Those who did not receive a notice must contact the settlement administrator at 844-467-2145 to verify their eligibility and obtain further instructions.
