Harrington Housing residents in Washington, D.C., who were charged excessive late fees or had cleaning fees withheld from your security deposit may qualify to claim a refund.

Harrington International Corp. and Harrington Off Campus Solutions Inc. (collectively known as Harrington Housing) agreed to resolve allegations brought by the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General. The office claimed Harrington Housing charged tenants late fees above the legal maximum, failed to provide a required grace period, did not include proper disclosures in rental contracts and withheld improper cleaning fees from security deposits.

Who can file a Harrington Housing claim?

Residents can claim a refund if:

  • They rented from Harrington Housing in the District of Columbia.
  • They received a Claim Number and PIN by email.
  • They were charged late fees that exceeded 5% of their full rent amount.
  • They did not receive a five-day grace period before they were charged late fees.
  • Their rental contract did not include required disclosures about late fees.
  • They had at least $150 withheld from their security deposit as a cleaning fee.

How much is the improper fee payout?

  • Late Fee Reimbursement: Residents who were charged late fees above 5% of their rent will receive the difference between what they were charged and the legal maximum.
  • Cleaning Fee Reimbursement: Residents who had at least $150 withheld from their security deposit for cleaning may qualify to receive that amount back.

Before any payment is issued, the D.C. Office of the Chief Financial Officer will check if the resident owes any money to the District, such as unpaid taxes or child support. Any amount they owe will be deducted from their refund.

How to claim a Harrington Housing class action rebate

Claimants must submit an online claim form claim online using the credentials sent via email. There is no PDF claim form available for download. The claim deadline is Aug. 18, 2025.
