Akeela Inc. agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to protect sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth and medical diagnosis and treatment details, from a cybersecurity incident discovered in June 2023.
Who can file a claim?
The class includes all U.S. residents whose personal information the data incident Akeela discovered on or about June 22, 2023, compromised.
If an individual received a notice about this settlement, it is because Akeela’s records indicate they are a class member.
How much can class members get?
Class members are eligible to claim two types of benefits:
- A pro rata cash payment from the $50,000 settlement fund: The settlement administrator will calculate the cash payment amount by dividing the $50,000 settlement fund by the total number of valid and timely claims. This means the amount each class member receives depends on how many people file claims.
- Two years of CyEx Financial Shield identity theft protection and credit monitoring: All class members who submit a valid claim can enroll in two years of CyEx Financial Shield, which includes:
- Monitoring for fraud or identity theft
- Alerts for unauthorized financial transactions
- Monitoring of personal information associated with high-risk transactions
- Access to fraud resolution agents in the event of suspicious activity
How to claim a data breach payment
Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is May 25, 2026.
