
Individuals who received a notice that the American Consumer Credit Counseling data breach discovered in January 2025 impacted their private information may be eligible to submit a claim for up to $8 from a class action settlement. The cybersecurity incident compromised the data of approximately 11,611 people.
American Consumer Credit Counseling Inc. agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging a cybersecurity incident exposed sensitive personal information, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account numbers and/or payment card information.
Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?
Class members are individuals residing in the United states whose personally identifiable information the data breach discovered by American Consumer Credit Counseling in January 2025 potentially compromised, including those who received notice of the incident.
How much can class members get?
- Documented out-of-pocket losses: Class members can claim up to $3,500 for documented losses related to the data breach. Eligible losses include monetary losses due to identity theft or fraud, credit monitoring fees, costs to replace IDs or postage for contacting financial institutions.
- Compensation for lost time: Class members can claim up to four hours of time spent addressing the data breach at $20 per hour for a maximum or $80.
- Alternative cash payment: Class members who do not claim out-of-pocket losses and/or lost time can submit a claim to receive a one-time cash payment of $45.
- Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to receive three years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete credit monitoring services, which includes $1 million in financial fraud insurance and monitoring for identity theft, unauthorized transactions and high-risk financial activity.

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail or email to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information
- Online claims require the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.
- Out-of-pocket losses claims require supporting documentation, which may include receipts, bank or credit card statements showing unreimbursed fees or fraudulent charges or other proof of monetary losses related to the data breach.
- Lost time claims require a brief description of how the time was spent dealing with the data breach.
