What Happened?

On Jan. 5, 2023, Trinity Health discovered a data breach involving unauthorized access to sensitive patient information.

The incident occurred on Dec. 16, 2022, and was linked to an automated electronic data exchange called a Health Information Exchange (HIE). Trinity Health was notified by its HIE partner that an HIE member, Health Gorilla, requested patient information for treatment purposes.

However, the HIE could not confirm whether Health Gorilla or the recipient companies had the proper authorization to access this information.
