Originally established as a wilderness camp for at-risk youth in Florida, the organization has grown significantly over the past five decades. Today, Eckerd Connects provides a wide range of services across the United States, including workforce development, juvenile justice, education, child welfare and family support.

Eckerd Connects operates in more than 20 states and Washington, D.C., and serves thousands of individuals every year. The organization partners with government agencies and other nonprofits to deliver programs that help youth and families overcome barriers and achieve long-term success.

What happened?

In November 2024, Eckerd Connects discovered suspicious activity within its network environment. The organization detected unauthorized access to its systems on or about Nov. 11, 2024, and immediately took steps to secure its network and begin an investigation with the help of cybersecurity professionals.

By Nov. 17, 2025, the investigation determined that files containing sensitive personal information may have been accessed by unauthorized individuals between Nov. 3 and Nov. 11, 2024. So far, the data breach has affected at least 68,585 people across the United States, including 62 in Maine, 66 in New Hampshire, 292 in Massachusetts and 541 in Texas.

On Dec. 17, 2025, Eckerd Connects posted an updated Notice of Data Security Incident on its website, reported the breach to the Maine and Vermont Attorney Generals' offices and notified impacted individuals by mail. The company also disclosed the breach to the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Texas Attorney Generals' shortly thereafter.
