What Happened?
On Sept. 22, 2025, ComTec Systems discovered suspicious activity on its network.
An investigation with cybersecurity specialists revealed that an unknown actor accessed certain segments of the network between Sept. 19 and Sept. 22, 2025. During this period, files were copied and potentially viewed.
The company later learned that the PEAR ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack and posted about it on the dark web on Sept. 26, 2025.
After reviewing the affected files, ComTec determined that consumer information was present in the compromised data. The company began notifying affected individuals in writing on April 1, 2026, and reported the breach to the Maine Attorney General on the same day.
Names are currently the only publicly disclosed information type exposed; however, the breach could have exposed further sensitive personal information such as financial account information, dates of birth, addresses, contact information, or Social Security numbers.
