Current and former employees and other individuals who received a notification that the December 2024 Holt Group data breach may have compromised their private information could qualify to submit a claim for up to $5,080 from a class action settlement. The cybersecurity incident impacted approximately 17,624 individuals.

B.D. Holt Co., d/b/a Holt Group, agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging a targeted cyberattack occurred in December 2024. The complaint claims the company failed to adequately protect personal information, potentially exposing names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and financial account details.

Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?

Class members are individuals residing in the United States whose private information the Holt Group data breach potentially accessed or acquired between Dec. 26, 2024, and Dec. 27, 2024, and who received a letter notifying them of the incident.

How much are settlement payments?

Class members have the following benefit options:

  • Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to receive two free years of three-bureau credit monitoring. Services include $1 million in fraud protection and access to a fraud resolution agent if suspicious activity occurs.
  • Cash payment A - Documented losses: Class members can claim up to $5,000 for documented losses traceable to the data breach Eligible expenses include losses from identity theft or fraud; fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or freezing/unfreezing credit; costs to replace IDs; and postage for contacting financial institutions.
  • Cash payment B - Time spent: Class members can claim up to four hours of time spent addressing issues the data breach caused at $20 per hour ($80 maximum). Eligible activities include changing passwords, investigating suspicious activity and researching the data breach.
  • Cash payment C - Alternate cash payment: Class members who do not submit a documented losses and/or a lost time claim can submit a claim to receive a one-time $50 cash payment.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print and complete the PDF claim form, and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information

  • To submit a claim online, class members must provide the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.
  • To submit a documented losses claim, class members must provide supporting documentation, such as receipts, bank or credit card statements, or other proof of identity theft or fraud.
  • To submit a time spent claim, class members must provide a description of tasks performed.

Settlement fund breakdown

The settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: To be determined
  • Attorneys' fees and costs: Up to $250,000
  • Service award to class representative: $5,000
  • Credit monitoring: Cost determined by number of claims filed
  • Payments to approved claimants: Total determined by number of valid claims filed

When is the Holt Group data breach settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments and credit monitoring activation codes to approved claimants approximately 90 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged B.D. Holt Co., d/b/a Holt Group. failed to adequately protect personal information during a targeted cyberattack in December 2024. The plaintiffs claimed unauthorized third parties may have accessed files containing names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and financial account information.

B.D. Holt Co. denies the allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of continued litigation.
