Dartmouth $750,000 Data Breach Class Action Settlement

Current and former employees and students who received a notice from Dartmouth College in November 2025 about a data breach may qualify to submit a claim for up to $5,000 and credit monitoring from a class action settlement. The incident impacted more than 40,000 individuals.

Trustees of Dartmouth College agreed to pay $750,000 to settle a class action lawsuit regarding a cybersecurity breach involving the Oracle EBS application. During the breach, a criminal third party gained unauthorized access to private information, such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and/or financial account details.

Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?

Class members are individuals residing in the United States who received notice from Dartmouth that the 2025 data breach may have impacted their private information.

How much are settlement payments?

Class members have the following benefit options:

  • Cash payment A - Documented losses: Class members can claim up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses another source has not already reimbursed.
  • Cash payment B - Pro rata cash payment: Class members who do not submit a documented losses claim can submit a claim to receive a pro rata cash payment estimated at $75,000. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the total number of claims filed.
  • Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to receive two free years of one-bureau credit monitoring. Services also include $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance, $1,000,000 in unauthorized electronic funds transfer reimbursement, dark web monitoring, real-time monitoring, and victim and security freeze assistance.

How to claim a class action rebate

To claim a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print and complete the PDF claim form, and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information

  • To submit a claim online, class members must provide the unique ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received. To submit a claim by mail, class members must provide the unique ID from their notice.
  • To submit a documented losses claim, class members must provide supporting documentation, which may include receipts, bank or credit card statements, correspondence showing the losses were due to the data breach, and other proof of fraud or identity theft.

Settlement fund breakdown

  • Payments to approved claimants: Remaining settlement funds

When is the Oracle Dartmouth data breach settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants after it completes claim processing or approximately 60 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement, whichever is later.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit claimed a cybersecurity incident involving the Oracle EBS software Dartmouth used allowed a criminal third party to access private information. The plaintiffs alleged Dartmouth failed to adequately protect this information.

Dartmouth denies the allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the risk and expense of continued litigation.
