ComTec Systems Data Breach Result of Ransomware Attack

ComTec Systems Inc., a telecommunications and technology solutions provider based in Vineland, New Jersey, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer network.

ComTec Systems discovered the breach on March 16, 2026, and began notifying affected consumers by written notice on April 1, 2026.

The breach was disclosed to the Maine Attorney General on April 1, 2026. At this time, it is undisclosed how many total people were affected as a result of the breach.

What happened in the ComTec Systems data breach

ComTec Systems was first alerted to suspicious activity on its network on Sept. 22, 2025. The company then launched an investigation with the assistance of cybersecurity specialists to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

The investigation found that an unknown actor gained access to certain segments of the company's network between Sept. 19, 2025, and Sept. 22, 2025. During this three-day window, files stored on the network were copied and potentially viewed by the unauthorized actor.

Just days after the suspicious activity was detected, a ransomware group known as PEAR posted a claim on the dark web on Sept. 26, 2025. The group alleged that it had obtained data from ComTec Systems. The claim was posted on Tor, a network commonly used to host dark web sites.

The type of consumer information identified as exposed in this breach included names and other undisclosed PII. The company's notification letter to affected individuals indicated that specific types of additional information involved may vary by person.

ComTec Systems' response to the breach

ComTec Systems is offering affected individuals 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring services through IDX, a third-party identity protection provider. The company noted that individuals must enroll themselves, as ComTec Systems is unable to do so on their behalf.

The deadline to enroll in the monitoring services is July 1, 2026.

ComTec Systems also encouraged affected individuals to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing account statements and monitoring their free credit reports for suspicious activity.

For individuals with questions about the breach, ComTec Systems has established a dedicated assistance line at 1-833-788-9712. Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding holidays.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

• Monitor credit reports regularly by requesting free annual copies from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion at AnnualCreditReport.com, and review them carefully for any unfamiliar accounts or suspicious activity.
• Be cautious of phishing attempts that reference ComTec Systems or this data breach by name, as scammers sometimes use information from breaches to send convincing emails, texts or phone calls designed to steal additional personal information.
• Consider placing a fraud alert with one of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax at 1-888-298-0045, Experian at 1-888-397-3742 or TransUnion at 1-833-799-5355), which will require businesses to verify identity before extending new credit.
• Review bank and financial account statements for any unauthorized transactions or unusual activity, and promptly report any concerns to the relevant financial institution.
• Report suspected identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission at identitytheft.gov or by calling 1-877-438-4338, and consider filing a report with local law enforcement if fraud is detected.
