According to the investigation, a cyberattack occurred on Sept. 22, 2025, when an unauthorized actor accessed Carlson’s systems. The company worked with third-party forensic specialists and determined that files containing sensitive personal information were viewed or taken during the incident.
At this time, at least 1,118 Iowa residents' information was compromised as a result of the breach.
The Akira ransomware group claimed responsibility for the attack and posted about it on the dark web on Oct. 10, 2025, stating they had obtained 20 GB of data, including corporate documents, financial data, and personal information.
