On June 28, 2025, the investment management intelligence provider, With Intelligence Ltd., fell victim to a data breach through its third-party background screening provider, PeopleCheck. The breach was the result of threat actors gaining access to PeopleCheck’s systems using compromised login credentials. The unauthorized access affected personal data processed between June 2024 and June 2025.
The incident specifically impacted individuals whose background checks were conducted by PeopleCheck on behalf of With Intelligence Ltd. PeopleCheck engaged forensic investigators to assess the scope of the breach. On July 7, 2025, PeopleCheck notified With Intelligence Ltd. that data processed for its employees and candidates may have been compromised.
By July 11, 2025, PeopleCheck confirmed that the breach had impacted data belonging to With Intelligence Ltd. and provided the company with a list of affected individuals and the types of data exposed.
In Massachusetts, two individuals were affected by this incident, as reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office on July 18, 2025.
The information exposed in this breach included a wide range of personally identifiable information (PII): name, email address, internal reference name, date of birth, phone number, birth city, Social Security number, gender, mother’s name and share code. According to PeopleCheck, no financial information or uploaded documentation was affected, and these remain secure.
This breach is considered severe due to the nature of the compromised data, particularly the exposure of Social Security numbers and other sensitive identifiers. The root cause was the compromise of login credentials at a third-party provider, highlighting the risks associated with vendor management and the importance of strong credential security.
With Intelligence Ltd. has taken several steps in response to the breach. The company is coordinating closely with PeopleCheck to investigate the incident and mitigate its effects. All affected employees and candidates have been notified so they can take steps to protect themselves from potential identity theft or fraud.
To support those impacted, PeopleCheck, on behalf of With Intelligence Ltd., is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response. Affected individuals can enroll in these services for 24 months, which include Web Watcher (monitoring for personal data on the internet), credit monitoring, fraud consultation and identity theft restoration. Enrollment instructions and support contact details are provided in the consumer notice, which is available in PDF format at the bottom of this page.
Given the exposure of Social Security numbers and other sensitive PII, it is strongly recommended that affected individuals take advantage of the free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. Additionally, they should remain vigilant by reviewing account statements, monitoring credit reports for unauthorized activity and considering placing a fraud alert or security freeze on their credit files. Further resources and guidance, including contact information for major credit reporting agencies and the Federal Trade Commission, are included in the official notice.
