Health Payment Systems Breach Impacts 9.3k Patients

Milwaukee based Health Payment Systems Inc., disclosed a data breach that has affected 9,380 individuals in the United States. The company provides consolidated billing and payment solutions for patients, healthcare providers and insurers through its patented PayMedix SuperEOB platform, which combines medical bills from multiple providers into a single statement for patients and families.

On or about June 27, 2025, Health Payment Systems became aware of suspicious activity related to certain employees' email accounts. The company took steps to secure the accounts and launched an investigation into the nature and scope of the incident with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity specialists.

The investigation determined that an unknown actor gained unauthorized access to certain employee emails on or about June 24, 2025, through June 27, 2025. After confirming the unauthorized access, the company began a detailed review to determine what information may have been contained in the impacted email accounts. Health Payment Systems also worked to identify the specific individuals whose information may have been affected.

The types of personally identifiable information that may have been exposed included names, addresses, dates of birth, ID numbers, Subscription IDs and Subscriber Person IDs. For certain individuals, the breach also involved Social Security numbers, medical information and health insurance information.

The breach was reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on July 10, 2026. Health Payment Systems additionally posted a notice of the incident on its website.
