Trailer Transit, Inc., a power only (towaway) transportation provider, recently experienced a significant data breach that exposed sensitive personal information. The most sensitive information exposed in this breach includes personally identifiable information (PII), including Social Security numbers.
The incident was traced back to a ransomware attack carried out by a group known as Metaencryptor Team. On Sept. 15, 2025, this group claimed responsibility for the attack on the dark web, stating they had obtained 8GB of the organization’s data.
The nature of the attack suggests that the hackers infiltrated Trailer Transit’s network, encrypted files, and exfiltrated data before demanding a ransom. Possible compromised information includes names, date of birth, address and Social Security numbers.
The exposure of PII puts individuals at risk of identity theft and financial fraud.
The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office on Nov. 25, 2025, and to the Vermont Attorney General’s office on Nov. 26, 2025. The company has begun notifying affected individuals by mail.
In response to the breach, Trailer Transit has taken several steps to support affected individuals and help protect their identities. The company is conducting a thorough review of the potentially affected records. Trailer Transit is also offering two years of complimentary identity monitoring services through Kroll.
