On Dec. 11, 2025, Rain Bird Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of irrigation products and services, notified regulators and affected individuals of a significant data breach that impacted its online web store. The breach exposed payment card information for 24,862 individuals in the United States, including 40 Maine residents.

The incident was first detected on July 25, 2025, when Rain Bird noticed suspicious activity in certain portions of its web store. An investigation, assisted by third-party cybersecurity specialists, determined that unauthorized actors had accessed payment card information used for transactions on the Rain Bird web store between Feb. 11, 2025, and Sept. 5, 2025. The company completed its review of the affected data in December and began notifying those impacted.

The types of consumer information exposed in this breach included names, credit card numbers, card verification values (CVV), and associated access codes. The breach specifically affected payment card data, making it a serious incident for those who made purchases on the Rain Bird web store during the affected period.

Beginning on Dec. 10. 2025, the company disclosed the data breach to the Attorney Generals' offices in California, Maine and Vermont. The company has begun notifying impacted individuals by mail.
