On March 18, 2025, Presbyterian Health Plan disclosed a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, affecting approximately 7,100 individuals. According to the disclosure posted on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' breach portal, sensitive protected health information, known as "PHI", was compromised.

The breach came to light after it was discovered a hacking/IT incident into the email of Presbyterian Health Plan.

Because of the sensitive nature of the data involved, this breach is considered serious. The exposure of medical record details could potentially lead to identity theft, medical fraud, and other forms of stolen identity

If you suspect your data may have been compromised, consider taking the following steps:

  • Enroll in the credit monitoring and identity protection services offered by Presbyterian Health Plan.
  • Regularly monitor your credit reports for unusual activity or unauthorized accounts.
  • Contact your financial institutions to inform them of the breach and place fraud alerts on your accounts.
  • Report any suspicious activity to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and local law enforcement authorities.

For further details, visit the official Presbyterian Health Plan website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
