Williams Brothers Construction Co. Inc., a Houston-based highway construction company, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer network in January 2026.

Williams Brothers detected the breach on or about Jan. 10, 2026, and is notifying affected individuals by U.S. mail starting Aug. 19, 2026.

An investigation conducted with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts determined that certain data was subject to unauthorized access between approximately Jan. 10 and Jan. 11, 2026.

On Feb. 16, 2026, a ransomware group known as Akira claimed responsibility for the attack in a posting on the Tor network. The group stated it had obtained 90 GB of the company's data. The compromised materials reportedly included employee personal documents, confidential financial records, project data, client files, nondisclosure agreements and other sensitive internal materials.

The company conducted a review of the impacted data to identify which individuals were affected and what types of information were involved. The review concluded on Aug. 3, 2026.

The types of information confirmed to have been exposed included names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and health insurance information.

So far, the breach has impacted 21,537 Texas residents and one Massachusetts resident.

Williams Brothers Construction's response to the breach

The company is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring services as a precaution. The monitoring services include single bureau credit monitoring, a single bureau credit report and a single bureau credit score, provided by Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. To enroll, individuals must visit the Cyberscout enrollment page and enter the unique code provided in their notification letter within 90 days.

The company urged affected individuals to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing their financial account statements and credit reports for any fraudulent or irregular activity.

Williams Brothers has also established a dedicated and confidential call center for affected individuals with questions about the incident. The call center is available between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, for 90 days from the date of the notification letter.
