Patten Title Company, a full-service title company in Texas, experienced a major data breach impacting customer data. In late July 2025, the company discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to its email system and accessed personally identifiable information (PII) data located in a database.

Compromised information includes names, dates of birth. Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, loan account numbers, financial account numbers, routing numbers, and credit and debit card numbers, including CCV codes and expiration dates.

The total number of affected individuals has not been released, but is believed to include thousands of Patten Title Company customers. The company began notifying impacted individuals by mail on Sept. 3, 2025.

The combination of detailed financial information and Social Security numbers increases the risk of identity theft and financial fraud for those affected. The cybersecurity incident was disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office on Sept. 4, 2025.

Patten Title Company's response

In addition to required state and federal disclosures, Patten Title Company is offering affected individuals 12 months of free TransUnion Cyberscout single-bureau credit monitoring. Customers with questions about the data breach can also contact the title company directly at 713-621-5808 from 9 am to 5 pm Central Time, Monday through Friday.

If you receive a data breach letter from Patten Title, you may want to:

  • Sign up for the free credit monitoring services, offered by the company.
  • Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for any unusual activity.
  • Be alert for phishing emails or phone calls that may use your exposed information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.

More information the organization can be found on the Patten Title Company website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
