Money Mart, a financial services provider operating under Dollar Financial Group Inc., recently experienced a data breach that affected its customers' personal information. The breach occurred between Nov. 9, 2025, and Nov. 29, 2025. This breach also impacts an affiliated business, The Check Cashing Store.
According to the disclosure filed with the California Attorney General on Jan. 9, 2026, the incident resulted in the exposure of names and Social Security numbers.
While the exact number of affected people has not been specified, the exposure of Social Security numbers elevates the seriousness of the incident.
In response to the breach, Money Mart has taken several steps to support those affected. The company has engaged Cyberscout, a TransUnion company specializing in fraud assistance and remediation services, to provide impacted individuals with a complimentary 12-month subscription to online credit monitoring.
This service includes email alerts for changes to credit reports, dark web monitoring, and up to $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance coverage. Additionally, affected consumers can access assistance with reading credit reports and answering questions about potential fraud.
Money Mart is encouraging all affected individuals to activate their credit monitoring service before April 30, 2026. The company also recommends that customers remain vigilant by reviewing account statements and obtaining free annual credit reports from the three major credit bureaus.
Steps such as placing fraud alerts or security freezes on credit files can help reduce the risk of identity theft. Contact information for Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, as well as resources from the Federal Trade Commission, are provided to assist consumers in protecting their information.
