L&S Mechanical, a Texas-based contractor specializing in plumbing, HVAC and electrical services, has reported a data breach affecting 5,139 Texas residents. The breach involved a ransomware attack.
The Space Bears group has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating on the dark web that they obtained the organization’s database, project documentation, drawings, financial documents and personal information of both employees and clients. The group threatened to publish the stolen data within six to seven days if their demands were not met.
The compromised data includes names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers (such as state ID cards and passports), credit or debit card numbers, medical information, health insurance information and financial account numbers.
The company filed a disclosure with the Texas Attorney General on March 6, 2026,
After discovering the breach, L&S Mechanical has advised those affected to remain vigilant for signs of identity theft or fraud and to monitor their financial accounts and credit reports closely.
Given the exposure of Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account details and health information, affected individuals should consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.
Because the breach involved ransomware and the threat of public release of sensitive data, it is especially important for those notified to take proactive steps. These may include reviewing medical and insurance statements for unauthorized activity, reporting any suspected fraud to the appropriate authorities and updating passwords for online accounts, especially those that may use similar credentials.
