Langdon & Company LLP, an accounting firm that provides financial and account services to Easterseals North Carolina and Virginia, experienced a major data breach.

On April 28, 2024, the firm detected unusual activity on its network. An investigation revealed the data breach occurred between April 21 and April 28, 2024, when unauthorized actors accessed certain files from Langdon’s systems.

The firm determined that files containing sensitive information related to patients of Easterseals North Carolina & Virginia were among those accessed. The cybersecurity incident affected at least 46,061 individuals in the United States.

The data breach compromised personal, protected health and financial information. Exposed information includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, Taxpayer Identification numbers, financial account numbers, medical information, health insurance information and digital signatures.

Langdon & Company LLP notified Easterseals on June 3, 2025. The data breach was disclosed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Aug. 1, 2025 and published a Notice of Data Security Incident on its website on the same day.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
