First Advantage Corp., an HR company that provides background check solutions for employers and housing providers, disclosed a data breach that affected 4,669 people in the United States.

According to the company's notification to affected consumers, an unauthorized third party gained access to a small number of Profile Advantage accounts by using valid log-in credentials. Profile Advantage is a consumer-facing account system operated by First Advantage Enterprise Screening Corp.

The breach occurred between Nov. 13 and Nov. 17, 2025, as reported in filings with state regulators. After discovering the unauthorized activity, the company stated that it promptly activated its response process and launched an investigation into the nature of the issue.

The company noted in its notification letter that there is no evidence the log-in credentials were taken from First Advantage itself. The company recommended that affected individuals change passwords for any other accounts that use the same email address as a username and the same password, suggesting the credentials may have been compromised elsewhere.

The personal information exposed in the breach included names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, email addresses and passwords to Profile Advantage accounts.

The breach was disclosed to attorneys general and consumer protection offices in Maine, Texas, Massachusetts and Montana between April and May 2026. According to those filings, 1,342 Texas residents, 12 Massachusetts residents, three Maine residents and one Montana resident were identified as affected. First Advantage discovered the breach on Nov. 17, 2025, and began notifying consumers by written letter on April 21, 2026.

First Advantage's response

First Advantage is offering affected individuals two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Experian IdentityWorks. The company described this as an additional precaution in its notification letter.

The Experian IdentityWorks membership includes several features: an Experian credit report at sign-up, ongoing credit monitoring, access to identity restoration specialists, Experian IdentityWorks ExtendCare (which continues identity restoration support even after the membership expires) and $1 million in identity theft insurance. No credit card is required to enroll.

To activate the services, affected individuals can visit the Experian IdentityWorks website at experianidworks.com/credit and enter the activation code provided in their notification letter. Those who need help or prefer not to enroll online can call Experian's customer care team at 1-833-931-7577.

First Advantage has also established a dedicated call center for questions about the incident. According to the notification letter, the call center is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Central Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
