On May 30, 2025, Farmers Insurance Exchange, Farmers Group Inc. (its attorney-in-fact), and their subsidiaries and affiliates, including brands like Foremost and Bristol West, became aware of a major data breach involving customer information. The incident originated with a third-party vendor, who detected suspicious activity in one of their databases containing Farmers customer data.

The investigation determined that a cybercriminal accessed and acquired certain data from the vendor’s database on May 29, 2025. By July 24, 2025, Farmers confirmed that personal information belonging to their customers was exposed.

Compromised information may include names, addresses, contact information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, insurance information, claim details and financial information including payment card or bank account numbers.

The cybersecurity incident was reported to the California Attorney General’s office and the Massachusetts Attorney General's office on Aug. 22, 2025. Farmers Insurance began notifying affected individuals on the same day.

Farmers Insurance's response

In addition to required state and federal disclosures, Farmers Insurance is offering impacted consumers 24 months of free Cyberscount single-bureau credit monitoring services. The enrollment deadline is Nov. 25, 2025.

If you receive a notice from Farmers Insurance, or one of its affiliates, about this breach, you may want to:

  • Sign up for the free Cyberscout credit monitoring services, offered by Farmers.
  • Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for any unusual activity.
  • Be alert for phishing emails or phone calls that may use your exposed information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.

For more information about the insurance company, visit the Farmers Insurance website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
