On April 10, 2025, Conrey Insurance Brokers & Risk Managers discovered and confirmed a data breach affecting thousands of individuals across the United States. According to a disclosure filed with the Maine Attorney General’s office, the breach impacted a total of 8,759 people nationwide, including one Maine resident.
The company first noticed unusual activity on its network on November 13, 2024, and an investigation revealed that unauthorized access occurred between November 12 and November 13, 2024.
The investigation determined that a portion of Conrey’s network was accessed without authorization, potentially exposing sensitive consumer information. The exposed data includes names and other personally identifiable information (PII).
The breach was reported to the Maine Attorney General’s office on May 1, 2025, and the company began notifying affected consumers in writing on April 30, 2025. For more details, you can review the official disclosure on the Maine Attorney General’s data breach portal.
Upon discovery of the breach, Conrey Insurance Brokers & Risk Managers took several immediate steps to secure their systems and respond to the incident. The company notified law enforcement, changed network passwords, and reviewed its internal policies and procedures to help prevent future incidents. In addition, Conrey is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services for twelve months through Cyberscout.
If you received a notification from Conrey, it is strongly recommended that you enroll in the free credit monitoring service provided. The company’s notice also encourages all affected individuals to remain vigilant by reviewing credit reports and account statements for any suspicious activity. You are entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus—TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. If you notice any discrepancies or unauthorized activity, contact the relevant credit bureau immediately.
Additionally, you have the right to place a fraud alert or a credit freeze on your credit file at no cost. This can help prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened in your name. Instructions for how to do this, as well as contact information for the credit bureaus, are included in the company’s notice to consumers, which will be available at the bottom of this article’s page in PDF format.
