Co-op Credit Union experienced a data breach. The credit union discovered that an unauthorized actor gained access to an internal employee account between April 8, 2025 and April 18, 2025. An investigation determined that sensitive personal information may have been acquired during the cyberattack.
A review took place and on July 23, 2025, revealed that data breach compromised personal and financial data. Exposed information included names, Social Security numbers and credit and debit card numbers.
CCU disclosed the cybersecurity incident to the Massachusetts Attorney General on Oct. 21, 2025 and has begun notifying affected consumers by mail. The total number of impacted individuals has not been released, but is believed to include current and former credit union account holders.
Following the discovery of the breach, Co-op Credit Union secured the compromised email account and worked with external cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. In addition to state and federal disclosures, the credit union is offering affected members a free two-year membership with Experian IdentityWorks Credit 3B. Services provided includes credit monitoring across all three major credit bureaus, identity restoration support, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.
