Service Lighting

Service Lighting, Inc., a prominent lighting distributor based in Maple Grove, Minn., has reported a data breach affecting 25,736 individuals in the United States, including 1,748 Texas residents and 151 Maine residents.

The incident occurred on March 12, 2025, but was not discovered until Feb. 2, 2026.

The breach was the result of malicious code being installed on Service Lighting Inc.’s e-commerce website. This code was designed to capture payment card data as it was entered during online purchases.

The unauthorized access potentially impacted transactions made through the online store between March 12, 2025, and Sept. 16, 2025. As a result, the following types of personally identifiable information (PII) were exposed include full name, payment card information, expiration date and CVV code.

The company notified affected consumers electronically on March 4, 2026. Moreover, the breach was disclosed to the attorneys general of California, Maine, and Texas.

Service Lighting's response

Service Lighting has provided clear guidance to affected consumers on steps they can take to protect themselves. These recommendations include:

  • Placing a one-year fraud alert on credit files at no charge, which instructs creditors to contact the individual before opening new accounts.
  • Placing a security freeze on credit files, which restricts access to credit reports without express authorization.
  • Obtaining a free credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus to look for discrepancies or unauthorized activity.
  • Monitoring financial account statements and credit reports regularly for signs of fraud or irregular activity.

The company has also provided contact information for the major credit bureaus and resources from the Federal Trade Commission for those seeking additional support.

If payment card information was impacted, affected individuals are encouraged to contact their financial institution to discuss whether to close the account or obtain a new account number.
