Consumers who were notified by Ventura County Credit Union about a data incident may be eligible to claim compensation from a class action settlement.

Ventura County Credit Union agreed to pay $1,800,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for two alleged data breaches that potentially exposed sensitive personal information of their members in 2022 and 2024.

Who is eligible for a data breach payout?

• Residents of the United States who received notice from VCCU that their information may have been impacted by the data incidents.
• California residents qualify for an additional cash payment.

How much is the class action settlement payment?

Class members can claim one or more of the following:

• Reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses: Up to $5,000 for documented monetary expenses and losses directly related to the data incidents.
• Lost time compensation: $20 per hour for up to eight hours for a maximum of $160 for both data incidents. Class members can claim up to four hours for the 2022 breach and an additional four hours for the 2024 breach.
• California statutory payment: California subclass members can submit for a cash payment of $75.
• Pro rata cash payment: Remaining funds after all other claim payments will be distributed on a pro rata basis to approved claimants.
• Credit monitoring services: Two years of credit monitoring and identity protection services with $1,000,000 in insurance coverage.

How to claim a Ventura County Credit Union payout

To claim an award, class members must complete and submit a claim form by the deadline of June 3, 2025. They can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

$1.8 Million data breach settlement fund

The settlement fund of $1,800,000 will cover various costs and payments associated with the settlement:

• Settlement administration costs: To be submitted to the court at a later date
• Attorneys' fees and expenses: Up to $645,000
• Service awards to class representatives: Up to $2,500 each
• Credit monitoring & identity theft protection: Determined by number of claims filed
• Payments to approved claimants: Remaining funds after other costs and expenses

When is the data breach settlement payout date?

Once approved by the court, the settlement will proceed and payments will be issued to class members with approved claims approximately 75 days after the approval date.
