How much is the turbocharger payout?
- Reimbursement for past repairs: Class members who paid for a qualifying turbocharger repair or replacement before Sept. 15, 2025, and within 8.5 years or 85,000 miles (whichever came first) from the vehicle's in-service date may claim reimbursement for 50% of the paid invoice amount (parts and labor) for one such repair provided the repair meets specific criteria related to turbocharger wastegate failure.
- For Generation 1 (Volkswagen/Audi) or Generation 2 (Audi) vehicles, the repair must have been due to wastegate malfunction from wear at the link plate and pin.
- For Generation 3 (Volkswagen/Audi) vehicles, the repair must have been due to wastegate failure from fork head and/or link pin corrosion.
- If the repair documentation does not specify the qualifying cause, reimbursement is 40% of the invoice amount, and the class member must provide additional maintenance proof.
- If an authorized dealer did not perform the repair, the maximum invoice amount eligible for reimbursement is $3,850.
- Warranty extension for Generation 3 vehicles: For current owners or lessees of Generation 3 settlement class vehicles, Volkswagen Group of America will extend the new vehicle limited warranty to cover 50% of the cost of repair or replacement (parts and labor) of a failed turbocharger due to specified causes up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles from the in-service date effective Sept. 15, 2025. If the vehicle is older than 8.5 years as of Sept. 15, 2025, the extension lasts until Nov. 14, 2025, or 85,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- The warranty extension is subject to the same terms, conditions and limitations as the original warranty and is transferable to subsequent owners if the time and mileage limits have not expired.
- The warranty does not cover failures due to abuse, misuse, alteration, lack of maintenance, collision, vandalism or outside sources.
