The remainder of the fund will go toward installing fully accessible point-of-sale kiosk devices in all of the company's Massachusetts stores.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged The Container Store maintained point-of-sale devices in Massachusetts stores that blind individuals could not access violating state laws regarding public accommodations, equal rights and consumer protection. The Container Store denied these allegations but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.

As part of the settlement, The Container Store will install fully accessible point-of-sale kiosk devices in each of its Massachusetts stores and provide formal training to employees on their use. This ensures legally blind and visually impaired customers can process their transactions in an equally independent manner and have a shopping experience comparable to that of sighted shoppers.
