
Individuals and entities who paid a $30 administrative fee for a red-light camera violation in Suffolk County, New York, at any point from April 1, 2013, to the present may be eligible to submit a claim for up to $36 per violation from a class action settlement.
Suffolk County and the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violation Agency agreed to pay up to $45 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they unlawfully imposed a $30 administrative fee on top of the standard fine for each red-light camera violation.
Who can file a claim?
Class members are individuals or entities who paid a $30 administrative fee between April 1, 20213, and the present to Suffolk County or the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violation Agency for a red-light camera program violation.
How much are settlement payments?
Cash payment: Class members can submit a claim to receive a cash payment of up to $36 for each administrative fee paid for a red-light camera violation during the qualifying period. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the total number of claims filed.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print and complete the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

When is the Suffolk County red-light camera fees settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will payments to approved claimants approximately 75 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Suffolk County and its traffic and parking violation agency unlawfully charged a $30 administrative fee in addition to the $50 fine for red-light camera violations in violation of New York State law. The court declared these fees illegal and prohibited the county from imposing them.
The county denies the allegations but agreed to the settlement to avoid the expense and risk of continued litigation.
