
Illinois residents or visitors who had their photograph taken or used by law enforcement may qualify to claim an estimated $200-$550 from a class action settlement.
Motorola Solutions Inc. and Vigilant Solutions LLC agreed to pay $47.5 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). The lawsuit claims the companies collected, stored, used and disclosed biometric data through their FaceSearch facial recognition technology and booking photo gallery.
Who can claim a Motorola settlement payout?
Class members must meet the following criteria:
- Their face appeared in an image or images processed using FaceSearch technology at any time up to April 9, 2025.
- They are or were an Illinois resident or were present in Illinois at the time the image(s) was taken or processed.
How much is the biometric privacy payment?
Pro Rata Payment: Eligible class members who submit valid claims will receive a cash payment estimated to be $200-$550 per person depending on the number of valid claims submitted and the deduction of court-approved expenses.

To receive a payment, class members can file a claim online or download and print a PDF claim form to fill out and mail in.

The $47,500,000 settlement fund:
- Settlement administration costs: Up to $1,000,000
- Attorneys' fees and expenses: Up to $16,150,000
- Service awards to class representatives: $7,500 each

When is the Simmons settlement payout date?
Payments will be issued no later than 58 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement and any appeals are resolved.
